About the subscription

Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann, Hugo Wolf, Francis Poulenc, Gabriel Fauré, Benjamin Britten, Eduard Toldrà... All of them, and many more besides, have earned their place in the standard repertoire of song recitals. But what about the many notable composers who were their contemporaries, sometimes just as celebrated —or even more so— in their own day, yet whose music is now so rarely heard in concert halls? Some fell into oblivion as public tastes changed; others, such as the victims of Nazism, were persecuted. Women composers, meanwhile, had few opportunities to make themselves known during their lifetimes, and their music was dismissed after their deaths for no other reason than their sex. Does not their music deserve to be rediscovered —and, above all, do we as music lovers not deserve to rediscover it?
