Bringing this first season of Reencontres to a close will be the very young German mezzo-soprano Katharina Bierweiler (born in 2004) and her regular pianist, the Finnish Jyri Mishukov. Hugo Wolf will be the familiar composer here: we will hear a selection from his Eichendorff-Lieder, interwoven with Anton Webern’s Fünf Lieder nach Stefan George. A selection of songs by Johanna Müller-Hermann, Alma Mahler (including her, fortunately, now quite regularly performed Fünf Lieder) and Joseph Marx will complete a programme in which, Webern’s atonality aside, late Romanticism will reign supreme.
