Musica Reservata de Barcelona
—Lotti, Palestrina, Monteverdi, Allegri and Scarlatti
Details
Musica Reservata de Barcelona, one of Catalonia’s leading vocal ensembles specialising in early polyphonic music, celebrates its 35th anniversary with a concert devoted to sacred music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Conducted by Esteve Costa, the ensemble presents a programme exploring the spiritual depth and expressive richness of sacred vocal music. Two masterpieces take centre stage: Gregorio Allegri’s Miserere, renowned for its association with the Sistine Chapel and its remarkable vocal ornamentation, and Domenico Scarlatti’s Stabat Mater, a ten-voice composition of extraordinary contrapuntal complexity. The programme also features works by Antonio Lotti, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina and Claudio Monteverdi, tracing the evolution of polyphonic writing and revealing different musical approaches to devotion, suffering and transcendence.
