Dido and Aeneas by Purcell
—Cor Jove de l’Orfeó Català, Vespres d’Arnadí & Pablo Larraz
Details
The Cor Jove de l’Orfeó Català launches a three-season project dedicated to Henry Purcell’s major operas with Dido and Aeneas, to be followed by The Fairy Queen and King Arthur, in collaboration with Vespres d’Arnadí and Dani Espasa. This opening concert, conducted by Pablo Larraz, presents one of the masterpieces of English Baroque opera, inspired by Virgil’s Aeneid. Mezzo-soprano Tànit Bono and baritone Josep-Ramon Olivé take the roles of Dido, Queen of Carthage, and the Trojan hero Aeneas, whose tragic love story explores the conflict between personal feelings and duty. The cast also features Anna Niebla and Judit Subirana, bringing Purcell’s expressive melodies and dramatic intensity to life while offering the young singers a valuable artistic and educational experience.
