Carsten Gueth studied architecture and urban planning in Stuttgart. During his studies, he developed an interest in the artistic and graphic expression of architecture in its broadest sense. As a result, during that time, he dedicated himself to designing magazines, books, and short films, which have been exhibited in various shows in his home country.

Immediately after graduating, he transitioned professionally into the field of graphic design, where he has worked for the past fifteen years, primarily creating campaigns for cultural institutions. More recently, he has expanded his artistic work into digital formats, where he explores his passion for textures and mid-tone colours.

The Palau de la Música Catalana has chosen him as the graphic artist to illustrate the 2025–26 season, drawn to his sensitivity and alignment with the season’s theme: ritual. Much of his artistic work revolves around the figure of the circle, which is a powerful visual representation of the idea of ritual: humans gather in circles to celebrate, to share, to talk, to create both liturgical and secular rituals—experiences that shape a sense of community. Furthermore, the circle is a recurring element in the modernist architecture of the Palau, as well as in music itself.

The artwork Carsten has created for the Palau stands out for its bold colours and its blend of emotion and technique, echoing the building’s own architectural spirit, through a contrast between pop colours and mid-tone graphics. The pieces featured in this book will be used in the Palau’s annual communications campaign and are easily adaptable to new formats and languages of communication, thanks in part to the artist’s work animating the designs.
