At the Palau, it will come to life in the hands of Kirill Gerstein, a Russian-born pianist trained in Moscow, Madrid and the United States, and an exceptionally versatile performer with a top-level career firmly established in Europe. Brahms’s Symphony No. 4 was the last symphony the composer wrote and represents one of the high points of his symphonic thought. Profound and imposing, it looks to the past while remaining deeply personal, condensing into four movements the maturity of a composer who knew how to renew tradition from within.

At the heart of this great symphonic display lies the rapport between Daniel Harding and the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. One of the leading conductors on the international scene and the Roman orchestra, of which he is Music Director, return to the Palau 100 series with a programme built around two essential works of the Romantic repertoire.
