The mission of the Fundació Orfeó Català-Palau de la Música is to foster music, with special attention to choral singing, knowledge and dissemination of cultural heritage and contribute to strengthening social cohesion.
Since January 2012, the Fundació OC-PMC has been in charge of the running and the activities of the Palau de la Música Catalana and its choirs. Up to then these had been in the hands of three different bodies: the Associació Orfeó Català, the Consorci of the Palau de la Música Catalana and the Fundació OC-PMC. The new model allows the management of the Palau to be simplified, making the best use of resources and providing greater openness. This model continues to represent the Orfeó Català (the association which owns the Palau de la Música), as well as including representatives of the authorities and sponsors.
In fact, the institution's uniqueness lies precisely in the symbiosis between the Palau de la Música and the Orfeó Català. An open, dynamic and diverse body which, through its activities, concerts, choirs and the Escola Coral (Choir School), fosters musical practice and training, knowledge of heritage and dissemination of culture among a diverse range of audiences which reflects Catalan society itself.
This is therefore a historic moment for the Palau de la Música and the Orfeó Català, marked by a return to the original values of the Orfeó Català as the guiding principles in the strategic positioning of this Fundació OC-PMC recently created.
Excellence, participation, social commitment and Catalan identity are the values which lie behind the organisation's new Strategic Plan, the same as those which saw the birth of the Orfeó Català in 1891 and led it to build the Palau in 1905.
