Vox Luminis, Freiburger Barockorchester & Meunier
—Mass in B minor by Bach
Details
The Mass in B minor holds a special place in the history of the Palau de la Música Catalana and the Orfeó Català. On 1 November 1911, the choir gave the work’s first performance in Spain at the Palau, one of the major milestones of its early years. More than a century later, this masterpiece by Bach returns to the modernist concert hall in the hands of two ensembles that have already made their mark at the Palau through the composer’s music.
Vox Luminis and the Freiburger Barockorchester join forces under the direction of Lionel Meunier, founder of Vox Luminis, who will conduct from within the choir, of which he is also a member as a singer. A combination that promises a particularly powerful Mass, with a choir made up of accomplished soloists, some of whom will also take on the work’s solo parts. Two ensembles with a deep expertise in Bach come together to revisit a score closely linked to the musical history of the Palau.
