An international collaboration with the Los Angeles Philharmonic to perform Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis

The Orfeó Català and the Palau de la Música Catalana Chamber Choir travel to Los Angeles to take part in an exceptional production of Missa Solemnis by Ludwig van Beethoven. The Palau choirs will join the prestigious Los Angeles Philharmonic (LA Phil), conducted by the renowned Gustavo Dudamel, for three concerts at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, one of the most iconic venues in the world.

Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, in addition to being a monumental, universal work and one of the most complex pieces in the choral-symphonic repertoire, holds special significance in the history of the Orfeó Català. The Orfeó was the first choir in Spain to perform this piece. It did so in 1927, under the direction of Lluís Millet, to commemorate the centenary of Beethoven’s death. It was an enormous challenge for the choir members, culminating in three concerts and a recording for radio and vinyl.

Don't you want to miss the ‘Missa Solemnis’?

During the month of November, the Orfeó Català, together with the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès and under the direction of Xavier Puig, will offer three concerts featuring Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis. These will take place on the 21st in Sabadell, the 22nd at the Palau de la Música Catalana, and the 23rd in Terrassa. For the Orfeó, these concerts will serve as preparation before traveling to Los Angeles. They also reflect the choir’s commitment to bringing music and choral singing to all corners of the region—a mission shared by the other choirs of the choral family and the Palau’s Chamber Choir.
