Because a place to gather and come together, where we can rethink who we are and who we have been, may be necessary for us. Because a space for celebration can do us good—both you and me—perhaps to celebrate that, for a moment, we are ourselves. Because, indeed, it is possible that we need ritual.

This is the idea behind Si mai et cal (el ritual), a traveling performance conceived by La Sullivan that rethinks the concept running through this year’s program at the Palau: ritual. It consists of up to five short pieces in different spaces of the Palau de la Música Catalana. It is, therefore, a unique opportunity to discover hidden corners and step onto stages that are rarely open to the public.

Si mai et cal (el ritual) opens with a poetry recital by the Palau’s resident poet, Mireia Calafell, with Clara Peya on piano. This is followed by a proposal from Oriol Sauleda and music by Mar Pujol, based on the word as the foundation of ritual that creates community. Adrià Targa, accompanied on violin by Sara Fontán, presents a recital that connects classical mythology, reception, and ritual. Neus Masdeu invites the audience to a performance that rethinks ritual through food.

And finally, a closing farewell that will be, if all goes well, the confirmation that, indeed, we needed ritual.
