René Pape comes to the Palau de la Música Catalana with a programme conceived almost as a reflection of his own career: the best of Verdi and Wagner for bass voice. The German singer, one of today’s leading interpreters of this repertoire, brings together some of the roles that have established his international reputation, from Fiesco, Banquo and Philip II to Hans Sachs, Marke and Wotan. A gallery of major characters that will showcase the depth, authority and dramatic power of one of the most acclaimed bass voices on the operatic stage today.

The programme alternates these great vocal moments with orchestral excerpts from Nabucco, Aida, La forza del destino, Lohengrin and Tristan und Isolde, in a balanced journey through the worlds of Verdi and Wagner. Alongside the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès, Pape also picks up the Wagnerian thread that brought the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra to the Palau this summer, while now expanding it to include the other great territory of his career: Verdi. Two giants of opera and a voice exceptionally closely associated with both.
