Details
Flute quartet neuma presents a programme exploring the tonal richness and expressive possibilities of these instruments through a variety of musical styles, combining classical masterpieces with contemporary music. Comprising Estela Córcoles, Alejandra Villalobos, Anna Pujol and Raquel Díaz, the ensemble is known for its distinctive sound and imaginative approach to performance, extending beyond the traditional concert format. The programme opens with Claude Debussy’s celebrated Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune, in an arrangement by the quartet that reveals new dimensions of the original work’s rich orchestral colours. Debussy’s masterpiece also inspires a new composition by Helena Cánovas, receiving its world premiere at this concert. The evening also features Jordi Cornudella’s Tres peces blaves, Lotta Wennäkoski’s Glimt, skymt and Steve Reich’s Vermont Counterpoint.
Rest: 1 1 v. intr. [LC] To cease exercising, working or engaging in an activity in order to relieve fatigue. (Dictionary of the Catalan Language of the Institut d’Estudis Catalans)
We close our eyes. Images begin to blur, and thoughts drift along paths that lead nowhere. Sounds come and go, scenes we cannot quite hold on to, fragments of something that may never have happened. Everything floats in an undefined space, somewhere between what is and what seems to be.
Perhaps this is what it means to rest: to let things happen without us. To have nowhere to go. To be nothing at all. For a moment, to fall out of step with the rhythm of everything that demands our attention. An almost political act.
