Jordi Savall, one of the most internationally renowned Catalan musicians, comes to the Palau de la Música Catalana with one of Beethoven’s most monumental works. At the helm of Le Concert des Nations and La Capella Reial de Catalunya, Savall presents a Missa solemnis that he has toured across Europe and also recorded with his ensembles. Recently awarded the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize, one of the most prestigious international distinctions in classical music, Savall thus continues his exploration of the great works of the repertoire beyond the field of early music.

Beethoven regarded the Missa solemnis as one of his most important works. Written in the final years of his life, it is a monumental score for soloists, chorus and orchestra in which the composer transcends the liturgy to offer a profoundly human and spiritual reflection. Contemporary with the Ninth Symphony, it reveals Beethoven at the height of his creative ambition and pushes the expressive possibilities of chorus and orchestra to their limits. In the year of the bicentenary of Beethoven’s death, this major work occupies a central place in the Palau’s exploration of the composer.
