Details
Martha Argerich leads an unusual program, rich in French, American, and Catalan influences. The music of Philip Lasser blends the colorful harmonies of French Impressionism with the traits of contemporary American music. The moving lyricism of his Vocalise, heir to the school of Nadia Boulanger and Narcís Bonet, connects with Francis Poulenc’s Concerto for Two Pianos, one of the most vibrant and captivating works by the Parisian composer — an endless source of surprises, humor, and lyricism.
This harmonic and melodic refinement is not only a distinctive trait of Poulenc but also a model for composers such as Lasser and Marc Migó, who closes the program with his Carnaval de las Indias. A distorted mirror of the famous Carnival of the Animals by Saint-Saëns, this work draws inspiration from Latin American mythology and the magical realism so characteristic of the region.
The text by Argentine writer Gonzalo Demaría structures this piece, written for Alan Kwiek and Annie Dutoit-Argerich, which will receive its Catalan premiere from the hands of its dedicatees.
