“ALAM” Elegia per Gaza (premiere)
Deh, com’invan sospiro
Si, ch’io vorei moriré
Beltà, poiché t’assenti
Qual fora, donna, un dolce “oimè” d’Amore
O dolorosa gioia
Mercè! grido piangendo
Non piú guerra, pietate
Tristis est anima mea
Felice primavera: Danzan le nimfe honeste, e i pastorelli
S’io non miro, non moro
Moro, lasso, al mio duolo
O vos omnes
Details
Visionary genius or eccentric prince? Creator of some of the most beautiful and daring madrigals of the Renaissance, or cruel murderer tormented by guilt? The figure of Carlo Gesualdo (1566–1613) continues to spark both fascination and controversy. His music, rich in chromaticism, dissonances and overwhelming emotion, contrasts with a dark biography that turned him into legend.
The Palau Chamber Choir, conducted by Xavier Puig, together with pianist and improviser Marco Mezquida, present a unique production: the trial that Gesualdo never had in his lifetime. On stage, a lawyer and a prosecutor confront arguments about musical modernity, the value of dissonance and creative freedom, while the music —the composer’s madrigals and responsories— becomes the true voice of both defense and prosecution.
The program also features a world premiere by Marco Mezquida.
