The musical journey of Josep Ollé i Sabaté (Tortosa, 1987) began at the Conservatory of his hometown, where he received his first composition lessons from Joan Vidal i Arasa. In 2005, he moved to Barcelona to continue his studies at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya, under the guidance of Bernat Vivancos and Albert Guinovart.
He mainly composes choral music, with a special interest in Catalan poetry and sacred texts. His music is especially appreciated for its melodic beauty and harmonic sensitivity. His works are imbued with deep spirituality, a ritualistic quality that aligns perfectly with the theme of the season at the Palau de la Música Catalana. Josep Ollé’s music is performed around the world and is part of the repertoire of many local choirs. Much of his work is published by Ficta.
At the Palau de la Música Catalana, the choral family of the Orfeó Català will perform pieces from his catalogue as part of the La Casa dels Cants concert series. In addition, the Orfeó Català will premiere the Te Deum he composed to mark the closing of Montserrat’s Millennium celebrations. The prestigious British vocal ensemble Voces8 will perform one of his works in a concert at the Palau, and the Trio Fortuny will premiere a new piano trio commissioned by the Palau de la Música.
