Frames Percussion begins its second and final season as ensemble-in-residence at the Palau. Their dedication to contemporary repertoire allowed them to present works by guest composers Raquel García-Tomás and Steve Reich during the Palau de la Música Catalana’s 2024–25 season. This year, the ensemble —consisting mainly of percussion instruments and winner of the 2024 Ensemble Prize from the Ernst von Siemens Foundation— will present three programs showcasing a wide range of musical styles by composers primarily from the 20th and 21st centuries.

Alongside works by Argentinian composer Martin Matalon and Ecuadorian composer Mesías Maiguashca, the ensemble will feature music by the season’s guest composer, Gabriela Ortiz from Mexico, as well as the world premiere of a commissioned work by Oliver Rappoport, a Spanish composer with Chilean and Argentinian roots. This program highlights the influence of European tradition on Hispanic American creation.

In addition, in a project involving the Palau’s Chamber Choir and the use of synthesizers and electronics, Frames will premiere Requiem, a new collaborative work with Claraguilar.

Finally, Frames Percussion will join forces with the GIO Symphonia, conducted by Francesc Prat, to perform Gabriela Ortiz’s Altar de neón in dialogue with Alfred Schnittke’s Polyphonic Tango, in a program that also brings together leading voices from the current minimalist movement, represented by composers such as Einaudi, Arnalds, Richter, Lang, and Rani.
