After conducting the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra at the Palau de la Música Catalana, Pablo Heras-Casado returns to the Concert Hall to lead the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique and the Monteverdi Choir in one of Beethoven’s major works. Heras-Casado is joined by a strong international cast, including David Butt Philip, Julia Kleiter, Johanna Wallroth, Christian Immler and Milan Siljanov, for the composer’s only opera.

Fidelio holds a unique place in Beethoven’s legacy: an opera about love, heroism and the struggle against injustice, with Leonore at its centre and featuring vocal and choral moments of great impact. Freedom, justice and fraternity run through the work and anticipate some of the ideals Beethoven would express years later in the Ninth Symphony. In the year marking the bicentenary of the composer’s death, this is an opportunity to discover Beethoven at his most theatrical and profoundly humanistic, in perfect harmony with the season’s theme of peace at the Palau.
