Dmytro Choni
—Debussy, Lysenko, Brahms and Rakhmàninov
Details
Ukrainian pianist Dmytro Choni, winner of the prestigious Paloma O’Shea International Piano Competition in 2018, returns to the Palau Piano series with a programme combining major works of the piano repertoire with lesser-known musical discoveries. The impressionistic sensitivity of Claude Debussy unfolds through a selection of his Préludes, pieces rich in colour and subtle nuances, while Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Preludes, Op. 32 explore the instrument’s expressive and virtuosic possibilities. The programme also features music by Johannes Brahms and two works by Ukrainian composer Mykola Lysenko, Rêverie and Rhapsody on Ukrainian Folk Themes, offering an opportunity to discover a leading figure of his country’s national school of music. A technically demanding and deeply expressive repertoire that showcases Choni’s artistic personality while bringing different European musical traditions into dialogue.
