Diego Ares
—El diablo vestido de fraile. Sonatas for harpsichord by Antoni Soler
Details
This season, the Palau de la Música Catalana sets out to revive the music of Antoni Soler, an essential figure in Catalan and Spanish musical heritage. And who better to undertake this journey than Diego Ares, a harpsichordist specialising in Soler’s music. Through Eleven Sonatas for Harpsichord and Prelude and Fandango, Ares invites us to rediscover a composer who, born in Catalonia and later based at El Escorial, came into contact with musicians and international influences and left behind a highly distinctive body of keyboard music.
Soler’s music has endured through the centuries and has also captivated great pianists such as Rosa Sabater, Alicia de Larrocha, Rosa Torres-Pardo and Luis Fernando Pérez. In this recital, it returns to the harpsichord in Diego Ares’s interpretation, offering an opportunity to discover, or rediscover, an essential name in our musical history through the sound of the instrument that brings us closest to his musical world.
