Cobla Sant Jordi-Ciutat de Barcelona & Massana
—The Impressions camperoles
Details
In 2027, we celebrate the centenary of the premiere of Impressions camperoles, one of the landmark works in the concert repertoire for cobla, composed by Joaquim Serra. The Cobla Sant Jordi – Ciutat de Barcelona, conducted by Miquel Massana, presents a concert that seeks to revisit the memory of that premiere, celebrate Joaquim Serra's legacy and, at the same time, look towards the future by establishing a dialogue between the musical heritage of the cobla and contemporary composition.
The first half of the concert features four of the sardanas performed at the premiere of Impressions camperoles, with works by Enric Morera, Joan Manén, Ricard Lamote de Grignon and Juli Garreta. This musical journey transports us back to the atmosphere of the period and provides context for the moment when Joaquim Serra first presented his work. The second half forms the centrepiece of the concert, offering a fresh perspective on Impressions camperoles on the centenary of its premiere. To mark the occasion, composer Guillem Palomar presents a new work, written especially for this event, which establishes a musical dialogue with Serra's composition and brings a contemporary perspective to his legacy.
Palomar's new composition, structured in four movements, will be performed interspersed with the five movements of Impressions camperoles. This arrangement creates a single musical sequence in which the two works alternate, establishing a dialogue between composers from two eras separated by a century.
Beyond the commemoration itself, the concert highlights the ability of music for cobla to keep its heritage alive while continuing to explore new musical languages and expressive possibilities.
