Organist Juan de la Rubia continues his journey through the complete organ works of Johann Sebastian Bach with a second concert at the Oratori de Sant Felip Neri Barcelona, exploring one of the composer’s most fascinating skills: the art of transcription. Entitled Manllevat i transformat. L’art de la transcripció (Borrowed and Transformed: The Art of Transcription), the programme reveals Bach’s ingenuity and imagination through his remarkable ability to reshape existing music into new works for keyboard. Lutheran chorale melodies, his own compositions and pieces by composers such as Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Friedrich Fasch and Johann Ernst provide the inspiration for an extraordinary display of musical creativity. The evening opens with the Fugue in G minor, BWV 131a, a work of disputed attribution based on one of Bach’s own cantatas.
