Glòria Coma i Pedrals

Conductor of the Cor Infantil of Orfeó Català

"Working with boys and girls who like singing is very enriching and very exciting!  Our goal is to make good music while having a good time and making ourselves all a little happier!"

Born in Santa Maria d’Oló (Barcelona), Glòria Coma i Pedrals studied conducting with Mireia Barrera, Josep Vila i Casañas, Pierre Cao, Johan Duijck and Harry Christophers. She has studied piano, double bass, theatre and dance, in addition to graduating in singing from the Catalonia College of Music (ESMUC) under the tutelage of Margarida Natividade, with whom she has studied a number of masterclasses in Belgium. She has conducted the Cor Infantil Sant Esteve de Castellar del Vallès (winning first prize in the 10th competition run by the Generalitat de Catalonia) and the Cor Jove de l’Escola de Música la Guineu de Barcelona (winning second prize in the 9th National Children’s and Youth Choir Contest in Habaneras de Torrevieja).

Coma i Pedrals has conducted adult choirs, such as the Cor Lieder Càmera (co-conductor from 2005 to 2008), and has performed as a double bassist in a number of ensembles. As a solo soprano she has performed the roles of Barbarina and Queen of the Night (Mozart), Lakmé (Delibes), Melissa (Handel), in addition to singing Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater (Orquestra Barroca Catalana) and Saint-Saëns’ Christmas Oratorio (Ars Musicae), among others. On several occasions she has been a member of the jury for the BBVA Montserrat Alavedra Chamber Music Awards.

Coma i Pedrals is a singing teacher at the Sant Benet de Montserrat monastery and at the Orfeó Català, while she is also a professor of choral conducting technique in the diploma in sacred music at Facultat Antoni Gaudí. This season she will be guest conductor at the Montecatini Festival di Primavera—run by the Italian Choral Singing Federation—for the second year in a row. Since 2008, she has conducted the Cor Infantil children's choir at the Orfeó Català (winning third prize in Cantonigròs).
