Víkingur Ólafsson
—Bach, Beethoven and Schubert
Details
Víkingur Ólafsson presents his latest album Opus 109 live, a project in which he creates a dialogue between Bach, Beethoven, and Schubert through the key of E, which he describes as a landscape full of nuance. Bach plays a foundational role with works such as the Prelude in E major and the Partita No. 6, which establish the architecture of the program. The influence continues with Beethoven’s Sonata No. 27, which opens the path toward Schubert and culminates in the Sonata Op. 109: a piece in which Romantic expressiveness and variations of Bach-inspired spirit coexist, transformed with a serenity that reveals the pianist’s personal artistry.
The Icelandic pianist, awarded the 2025 Grammy for Best Classical Instrumental Solo for his recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations, offers audiences unique experiences with personal interpretations of fundamental works of the repertoire, redefining what it means to be a pianist in the 21st century.
This concert is part of the Barcelona Obertura Ciutat de Clàssica festival, which is held from 5 to 31 March 2026 in various auditoriums and palces in the city.
