The Palau and the Orfeó Català promote Catalan culture in aid of their community project

On Sunday, 30th June 2013, from 10am to 3pm, the Palau de la Música Catalana will be holding its traditional Open Day, part of the neighbourhood festival of Sant Pere, Santa Caterina and La Ribera, and featuring free performances by different choirs in the concert auditorium every 30 minutes.

Over 5 hours, visitors will be able to go into the auditorium (stalls and upper circle), a magical place designed as an immense glass box with a great central skylight, the venue for major concerts and events. They will also be able to visit the Lluís Millet room, the spectacular retiring room on the first floor which is named after the founder of the Orfeó Català; or the Petit Palau, a venue built 11 metres under the ground, where the video normally used on guided tours will be shown, in four languages: Catalan, Spanish, French and English. This explains the origins of the Palau, the distinctiveness of the venue and the history of the building, home to the Orfeó Català; and finally the doors to the Orfeó Català rehearsal room will be thrown open, revealing an intimate, cosy room where the first stone to be laid of the Palau is located.

"I Catalan Culture" – You too can wear the bracelet!

Also on 30th June, taking advantage of the popularity of the Open Day, which attracted over 4,000 visitors last year, an institutional campaign will be launched to raise money by selling purple silicon bracelets at a price of two euros. This is a scheme to promote Catalan culture, one of the central features of our society and also an identifying feature of the country. The profits will go to the Palau and Orfeó Català community project, which fosters choral singing among children in the neighbourhood.

With the slogan You too can wear the bracelet!, visitors are encouraged to take part in the campaign by wearing the bracelet and having themselves photographed somewhere in the Palau. All the photos received will be publicised on the social networks. The bracelets will be on sale from 18th June on the website and in the Palau shop.
