Lecture: 110 years of the construction of the Palau de la Música Catalana, by Lluís Domènech i Girbau

On the occasion of the inauguration of the exhibition of the Orfeó Català Documentation Center (CEDOC) dedicated to the construction of the Palau de la Música Catalana, which took place between 1905 and 1908 110 years ago, the architect Lluís Domènech i Girbau explained how the building was conceived by his great-grandfather, Lluís Domènech i Montaner, commissioned by the Orfeó Català, and its architectural features.

Previously, Mariona Carulla, president of the Orfeó Català, welcomed the attendees and Marta Grassot, head of CEDOC, explained the content of the exhibition, which could be seen at the Foyer del Palau from March 6 to 15 May 2018.

The sample included historical documents, many of which were unpublished, such as invoices, contracts, correspondence, press and photographs, and other more modern ones that explain the construction project of the Palau, bearing in mind the figure of the Orfeó and the Partners as a driving force. The exhibition also reviewed the main works of restoration, extension and remodeling that began in the 1940s, and that the external part of the Palau has been significantly transformed.
