Entangled Others: The nature of the Palau de la Música Catalana through artificial intelligence

The Argentinian Sofia Crespo and the Norwegian Feileacan McCormick form Entangled Others Studio, based in Lisbon. The concept entangled –which can be translated as “hustle”, but also (figuratively) as “involvement”– is defined by the digital artists of Entangled Others as a complex state in which no entity can be said to be separate, or is not affected in any way by another boss, also connected. That is to say, we cannot consider ourselves without others, act without interacting, speak without being listened to. We live a multitude of the individual and other individuals, equally present and alive, together: in relationship.
Using artificial intelligence (AI), Entangled Others creates new, previously non-existent visual realities that draw on the parameters of a reality that does exist in the world. It is a way to connect individuals and eliminate the distance between each other. Beyond a purely aesthetic will and to create virtual or unreal realities, the work that emerged in this pioneering study in art created with artificial intelligence consists of delving even deeper into the more than human world of individuality and others. A world where diversity and interconnectedness are nurtured and compromised. A world where reality takes on new dimensions.
In the context of the season's theme, in which nature and humanity are the protagonists, the artistic work proposed by Entangled Others to illustrate the season at the Palau de la Música Catalana invites us to discover the illusory nature that inspired Lluís Domènech i Montaner the design of the decorative art that fills the Palau de la Música Catalana, adding to this celebration of the centenary of his birth.
