Details
Almost 30 years ago, its creator and conductor Sergi Vicente started a pedagogic experience that came to be a great profesional project, being the first of its kind and therefore stating itself as a reference for all the guitar orchestras that came after. That original orchestral formation, being the result of hard insvestigation, adaptation and interpretation work, has performed more than 700 times, and it has a wide repertoire that includes compositions from all historical periods.
During that time, more than 150 guitarists form all over the world have been part of the Orquestra. Some of them developed a brilliant career as soloists, while some others were chosen to become part of the European Guitar and Mandolin Youth Orchestra, along with other musicians from all European countries. The Orquestra has always been accompained by prestigious soloists (O. Kobékina, cembalo, A. Voronkova, violin, O. Ponce, dance, etc.), who help creating concerts and shows as great as the marvelous architectonic and artistic settings where the performances are shown. Internationally pretigious instrumentalists have joined too as soloists multiple times.
The Orquestra performed in the most pretigious and relevant scenarios and festivals in Spain, but it also has an intense international activity: in year 2000 it participated in the Festival Internacional de Guitarra de la Habana, in 2003 did a tour in Russia, and in 2009 and 2001 it also did two very successful tours in the United States. Its performances in Rome, Paris and Vienna were also remarkable, along with its participation in the Festival de Música del Mediterráneo in 2008, 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2018.
On its 15th anniversary, special edition CDs and DVDs were made, and had successful sales. In 2009 Master Leo Brouwer personally conducted the Orquestra in Barcelona’s Auditori. The act was recorded by TV3, and the broadcasting of this audiovisual material was made since a international reference by all other guitar orchestras all over the world.
In this concert cycle in the Palau de la Música Catalana, it will perform various shows:
Spanish Music (G. Sanz, I. Albéniz, E. Granados, L. Boccherini, etc.)
Baroque Music (A. Vivaldi, J. S. Bach, F. Häendel, etc.)
