Details
The first large-scale vocal work written by J. S. Bach just after his appointment as Thomaskantor in 1723, the St John Passion premièred in April of the following year in the first series of annual works for the Leipzig church, which began with the Cantatas. The little sister to the St Matthew Passion—due to its shorter length and fewer performers—continues to amaze anyone who listens to it over the centuries. On this occasion, the work is given an entirely Catalan spin, performed by the Palau de la Música Catalana’s chamber choir, the Cor de Cambra and the Orquestra Barroca Catalana.
