P. I. Txaikovski: The Nutcracker

The most enchanting story of Christmas returns to fall in love with the public of all ages

Keeping the tradition and spirit of classical ballet, this sumptuous production of the Ukrainian Classical Ballet captures all the beauty and drama of authentic romantic ballet, an all-time classic that appeals to all generations.

In each presentation, the main motivation of the Ukrainian Classical Ballet is to take care of the traditions and essence of the purest classical ballet, making them a feast for the senses with the charm of their costumes and the showiness of their decorations; generating a fascinating balance with the perfection of their lines and the sobriety of their choreographies.

With the best Ukrainian dancers directed by the choreographer Natalia Kazatska, the Ukrainian Classical Ballet recreates with singular mastery the key works of the universal ballet. This emerging company based in the city of Kharkov, a true benchmark of this genre, is responsible for bringing to the stage masterpieces such as Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Giselle, Sleeping Beauty, etc.

It's Christmas Eve. At her parents’ party, Clara is thrilled when her godfather, the mysterious Herr Drosselmeyer, gives her a nutcracker doll dressed as a soldier; he even repairs it by magic when her brother breaks it in a fit of jealousy. Later that night, when everyone is asleep, Clara sneaks downstairs to look for her doll, only to find that the Christmas tree suddenly becomes enormous and all the toys come to life. Transformed by Drosselmeyer into a valiant warrior, the Nutcracker leads his toy soldiers in a fierce battle with the villainous Mouse King and his army, defeats them with Clara’s help, and immediately turns into a handsome prince. He whisks Clara away to the Kingdom of Sweets, where the Sugar Plum Fairy welcomes them to a brilliant display of colourful dances from across the world and a magnificent pas de deux that is one of the highlights of classical ballet – the perfect climax to a sparkling fantasy that entertains and delights everyone who sees it.

During its extensive career, the Ukrainian Classical Ballet has toured extensively and successfully on the best stages in Europe.
